Administrative/Office Support

Our church administrators are in the office Monday through Friday, reporting directly to the Pastor and provide assistance to other staff members, church officers and members. Primary duties include creating weekly bulletins, preparing mailings, working with the webmaster to maintain the church website and assisting with our newsletter, The Chimes.  (Available on this website by clicking here) The staff updates the CPC directory, attendance records and prepares other publications. They also notify the Deacons of prayer requests and of needy people who come to the church seeking food, clothing, and shelter.  They are assisted by volunteers.

Our church bookkeeper keeps track of all contributions, other income and expenditures for the church.  Working with the chair of the Finance Committee, she helps to produce the quarterly statements and other required financial reports and records.

Building and Grounds

This ministry team is involved in long-range planning for and immediate development of church facilities to meet the projected needs which will allow programs to fulfill our stated purpose, beliefs, and goals. The team is also involved in improving existing facilities that will coordinate with our long-range planning, and for ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and facilities.

Clerk of Session

The Clerk of Session acts as Session parliamentarian, receives the correspondence, keeps the records, and routinely discusses the work of the session with the pastor and session members. The Clerk is the senior lay officer of the congregation.

This ministry team is tasked with keeping the lines of communication in our church family active and sharing the word of God within the church and in the larger community.  The committee is responsible for the preparation of The Chimes - our monthly newsletter, maintaining and updating this website and for any other information being disseminated regarding the church and its activities. They also prepare press releases and other material to make the community more aware of our church.

This ministry provides the congregation of CPC with opportunities for loving, caring, and joyful fellowship that are in keeping with our stated purpose and beliefs, promotes relationships within family units, and develops a sense of "extended family" involving all persons in the church community. It oversees the fellowship programs of the church, such as congregational dinners, church picnics,  fellowship events and other programs as they arise.

Finance and Administration

This ministry records and controls with accuracy and timeliness the financial business of the church and reviews all insurance policies.  It also is charged with monitoring all funds of the church including: General Fund, Building Fund, Preschool Fund, Endowments and the Pastor's Housing Fund.

Member Support

This ministry is involved in keeping track of and contacting all members on a regular basis to encourage active participation in our church activities and alert staff of any significant need for pastoral care, etc. Special attention is  given to new members to facilitate their involvement in one or more of the church's ministries and activities.

Mission

This ministry coordinates the social, ecumenical, health and peace concerns programs in our local church and community and the church worldwide. Among other groups we have partnered with Habitat for Humanity, God's Hidden Treasures and Family Assistance Ministries.

Music

Our music ministries are part of worship ministry, as follows:

Children's Choirs - The children learn to play Orff instruments and perform for selected Sunday services.

Chancel Choir - This choir sings for our traditional service and performs special works from time to time.

Praise Band -  These musicians lead our contemporary music.

Organist/Pianist - Provides inspirational music for our traditional service and accompanies the Chancel Choir.

All vocal and instrumental musicians are invited to join in this exciting ministry.  Contact the church office if you are interested.

Nominating

This ministry team searches for members of the church who feel called and are willing and able to serve as Elders and Deacons.

Outreach

This ministry's mission is to oversee the progression of people in the community from the time of CPC first contact with them, to the time of their full commitment to the worship of Jesus Christ by:

  • Developing action plans to increase attendance and participation in worship.

  • Helping our members to reach out to family, friends, and neighbors with the gospel, inviting them to our events and into our fellowship.

  • Providing assistance to guests, and opportunities for membership.

  • Along with Member Support, assisting new members to become assimilated into the life of the church.

  • Maintaining contact with those who are not actively involved.

Personnel

This team coordinates and oversees church personnel matters including, hiring and staff reviews. This ministry is made up of at least one elder plus other members who have expertise in this area.

Prayer Chain

This special ministry, sponsored by the Deacons,  contacts committed Christians with prayer concerns.  Whenever a new concern is passed on to the Prayer Chain, it is forwarded to a large group of people committed to be in prayer for the concerns of the church.

Please contact the church office or a Deacon with your prayer concerns.  New members of the Prayer Chain are always welcome!

Presbyterian Women

This organization is open to all women of the church. The group is divided into three Circles which meet each month (except July and August) for sharing fellowship, prayer and Bible study. The Circles meet on the second Tuesday (7:30 p.m.), Wednesday (10:00 a.m.) and Thursday (9:30 a.m.) Several times each year the group meets together in "gatherings" which feature speakers and/or audio-visual presentations which bring inspiration and current information about Presbyterian mission activities in this country and abroad. [Men are always invited to gatherings.]

Preschool

The Preschool Committee directs operations of CPC Preschool. Our Mission is to provide the highest quality early childhood education in a warm and loving Christ-centered environment. We teach each child they are a precious gift from God, unique and loved. CPC Preschool serves approximately 185 community children ages 2 ½ to 5 years old attending either 2, 3 or 5 days per week. The 14 teachers and aides incorporate art, music, science and dramatic play into the learning experience. We are proud the church preschool is highly regarded in the community for the outstanding program and wonderful growth experiences of the students.

Stewardship

This ministry works to promote an attitude of joyful contribution of time, talent and resources to the work of Christ. It encourages proportionate financial giving using the Biblical Tithe. Stewardship reports monthly income to the Session and is also responsible to provide quarterly statements for individual givers as a record of their contributions.

Worship

This ministry works with the Pastor and Music Director to create an environment for worship. It is responsible for seasonal and theme coordination. This includes recruiting participants for dramatic readings, liturgical dance, skits, etc., as well as decorating the sanctuary and other church facilities being utilized for regular and special events. These special events might include musical presentations by choir and orchestra, special midweek services during Lent and Advent, etc. This is an important ministry as these events are the first impression for a new visitor.

Wedding Coordinator

When a wedding is scheduled at the church, our wedding coordinator will work with the wedding party to help plan a memorable day.  She will be available on the day of the wedding to be sure that everything goes as scheduled.

ELDERS

The Role of Elder

Elders are chosen by the church members. Together with our Minister of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibility for the life of a particular church as well as the Church-at-Large, including ecumenical relationships. They shall serve faithfully as members of the session.

Elders are persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life is a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both with the Church and the world.

It is the duty of Elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation committed to their charge. Together, with the Pastor, they encourage the people in the worship and service of God. They equip and renew them for their tasks within the Church and for their mission in the world, visit and comfort and care for the people, with special attention to the poor, the sick, the lonely, and those who are oppressed.

Each Elder serves for a term of two years.   Each year six Elders' terms expire and six new Elders are elected.

DEACONS

The Role of Deacon

The office of Deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgment are chosen for this office.

It is the duty of Deacons, first of all, to minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the Session.

These Deacons are all Ministers of TLC (tender loving care). Each serves a term of three years, and each year five Deacons' terms expire and five new Deacons are elected. The selection and election process is the same as that used for Elders. The Ministry of the Deacon is an important ministry of service. It is work, as well as an honor and a privilege. It is our prayer that if you are asked to serve in this capacity, you will be led to accept.
