Auses' Year in Review

Dear Friends,

We are winding down our time in Hungary and are slowly and often sadly saying good-bye to those who have become so dear to us.  The following is our ministry year in review.  God has given us many opportunities, but our greatest blessing has been walking with dear people here who are doing the real work in God’s mission.  As always we have received far more than we gave.  This is due to both God’s economy and to the Hungarian culture.  Thank you for following our adventures and for your consistent and encouraging support, which has come in many forms over the year.  

At the Siloam Reformed Mission Retreat Center

• Whitewashed  retreat bedrooms
• Cleaned, sorted and re-outfitted the children’s game room
• Arranged for purchase of swing set donated by CPC Children
• Hosted Guests (Germans, Americans, Hungarians)
• Sent 10 information packets about the Retreat Center to friends in ministry around Europe
• Edited the brochure and house rules in English
• Supported Emil and Zsuzsa as requested and in whatever we perceived needed to be done.  This included: welcoming guests, cleaning rooms, giving and receiving laundry, minor repairs, watching heating system, caring for coffee machine, helping in the kitchen and dining room.

Teaching at the Reformed Theological Academy of Papa

• Two semesters teaching Religious and Church English
• One semester teaching Youth Mission course
• One semester teaching support for Internet and Mission course
• Occasional guest speaker

Schools

• Visited Chemistry classes, grade level meetings, and English classes at schools in Veszprém (3), Miskolc, Balatonfüred, Szentgál and  Budapest
• Discussed education with students, teachers and principals

The Reformed Church of Hungary

• Preaching (Gyömrő, Veszprém 2x, Alsóörs, Felsőörs, Balatonfüred 2x, Miskolc)
• Attended, spoke at and visited youth groups (Veszprém, Balaton Megyei,
  Kaposztásmegyér, Jozsef u.)
• Sang in choir of Balatonfüred’s Reformed congregation at various city and
  ecumenical events
• Guest speakers at Couples Meeting (Gyömrő)
• Delivered aid to flood areas in Transylvania in Sept. 2005
• Knit blanket squares for orphanage in Transylvania.

Science and Faith

• Took part in a Jesenius conference for high school teachers in Budapest
• Led discussions on issues of science and faith in schools and churches
   (Kaposztásmegyér, Jozsef utca, Veszprem and Budapest)
• Gave speech at Fazekas High School in Budapest on
  „Faith and Evolution”
• Lecture at Szeged University at invitation of Medical Univ. Bible study group, title „God’s Fingerprints in Nature”

English Language Ministry

• Translated proposals for new Mission Research Institute

  

• Proof read Theological Masters Thesis for Hungarian student writing in English
• Acted as translator for János Nagy on US trip, 2 weeks in October
• Translated letters and Hungarian History for US readers
• Recorded English text for 2 new English language textbooks
  (One was published by Karoly Gaspar Reformed University)
• Judged regional high school English contest
• Attended several High School English classes as guest native speakers
• Attended and assisted at English camp at the Rakoscsaba Reformed Congregation in Budapest

Connecting Communities

• Planned visit for a group from our home U.S. church, hosted
   and guided them during their visit to several
  Reformed church communities
• Girls attended Hungarian school
